Best Kept Secret
The London Borough of Barking and Dagenhams' Best Kept Secret!
RUSH GREEN!
Location: In between Romford and Dagenham is the small town called Rush Green. It is the Eastbrook & Rush Green ward/electoral division, which is in the constituency of Dagenham and Rainham. However some parts of Rush Green are under Havering Council instead of LBBD London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
On the surface its nothing special, regular 1930s houses and some ex local authority buildings. However what lurks behind is a golden nugget that only few shall find.
The River Rom trickles across the back from the YMCA to Gorseway, Foxglove and Eastbrook Drive. The houses that are fortunate to back onto the river have beautiful views of the various trees and wildlife (mostly birds). Its a bird watchers delight!
A walk along the river from Gorseway will bring you to the entrance of the Chase Nature Reserve. From here you can take a tour which can last anything from 30 minutes upto hours depending on how much you like to walk.
After about 15 minutes of beautiful greenery and marshes you will come to Eastminster school of riding. Early mornings you can experience the beauty of the horses running freely and grazing in the fields. Keep a close eye out for the many rabbits running around the bushes also.
A staggering 200 species of birds have been recorded onsite and the chase is also home to rare Black Poplar trees.
The Chase borders Eastbrook and Beam Valley Country Parks which combined create a really important area for wildlife.
A little further you can find the lakes of the Chase which have some great fishing spots and also Eastbrook Country park.
I highly recommend stopping at the lovely Eastbrookend Country Park Tea Room which serves a great selection of food and drink as well as Afternoon Tea. This is found at the Discovery Centre, Dagenham Road, Rush Green, Romofrd, Essex, RM7 0SS
There is so much more to tell, but I want you to enjoy the experiences that I have had by experiencing it for yourself; because the exploration of veering in different directions and discovering different things on every walk is all part of the fun.
Please feel free to tell us about your experience by contacting Property Vine.
Access:
If you are not fortunate enough to access the chase form the rear of your house, then you can still access from Dagenham Road and other points and is well sign posted on Rush Green Road, Rainham Road South and North. You can also access from Dagenham East opposite the station.
